Lili was one of four Welsh mares that came to Mane Chance together after we had been contacted by World Horse Welfare, who were looking for a home for them to go to without being separated. They had been living in a field since birth and had largely fended for themselves, so had had very little human connection and needed a home where they would be worked with slowly and patiently. Lili is slightly younger (we think!) than the others and is definitely the most shy and reserved of the four – taking longer to try new things than the others and waiting for them to take the lead. She is also the most alert, always keeping watch for the others and checking out every movement of the other horses and humans in the fields. But time and patience reaps rewards and now Lili can be handled, groomed and have her feet trimmed like the others and she is clearly enjoying this new found confidence. It is hard to tell the difference between the three grey mares but Lili has one easy difference if you know to look for it – her mane falls to the left as you look at her – the other two mares have manes that fall to the right!
