Nell came to Mane Chance after her owner’s circumstances changed and she needed to find a long-term home for her. We were in the process of taking in another horse Raggles who shared a field with Nell, and it became apparent that to bring the two to Mane Chance at the same time would be beneficial as we could give them both the security of a home for life. Whilst Nell is a striking black Friesian, Raggles is a standard Shetland pony, so they are an unlikely pair, but they had a connection and relationship that meant they could offer support to each other for this big change in their lives.
Nell was born in the Netherlands and came over to Scotland and then England to live. She has quite a strong character, but also has shown motherly tendencies, which makes her ideal for a herd lifestyle. Since 2023, there has been a couple of occasions where Nell has struggled on her hind legs and she shows signs of some weakness or arthritis in her hips and back legs – but with the help of our equine osteopath, we can offer her support and relief from any soreness as she ages gracefully with us!
