Thelma

Thelma was one of two mares we rescued together – an unusual coupling as Thelma was a Shetland and Louise a fully grown cob! The mares had been abandoned and were found wandering in Dunsfold in the middle of the night.  A friendly farmer, concerned for their safety in the darkness, encouraged them onto his land and then called us!  We nursed them back to health - Thelma had chronic sweet itch, sores, matted and clumped hair and looked very bedraggled.  When they arrived on site, we were initially concerned that to separate them would be too difficult, but once Thelma had been introduced to the other Shetlands and caught sight of our handsome geldings, she soon ‘allowed’ Louise to move in with the main herd and horses of her own size.  Thelma immediately formed a lasting friendship with Grimbo and is a happy and popular member of our little Shetland herd. She is very friendly and affectionate towards people and is doing some really lovely work with the children who visit us.
